The Hesco Bastion (also known as Concertainer or MIL unit) is a modern military fortification system consisting of a collapsible wire mesh container with heavy-duty geotextile lining. Designed for rapid deployment — a single unit expands to create a 1m x 1m x 1m protective barrier when filled with sand, soil, or rubble.
Rapid Deployment Advantage
The defining feature of Hesco barriers is deployment speed:
- Pre-Assembled: Units arrive flat-packed and pre-connected. One person can unfold a 20-unit section in 10 minutes.
- No Foundation: Place on any flat ground. No excavation or concrete needed.
- Fill On-Site: Use local material (sand, soil, gravel, rubble). No material transport needed.
- 20x Faster Than Sandbags: A 100m blast wall requires 10,000 sandbags and 50 man-hours. Hesco: 100 units, 2 man-hours.
Construction
- Mesh: Welded zinc-aluminum coated steel wire mesh (4.0mm wire, 75mm x 75mm)
- Lining: Heavy-duty non-woven polypropylene geotextile (UV-stabilized, 200g/m2)
- Configuration: Multi-cell design — cells connected by internal diaphragms preventing fill migration
