PVC-coated gabion boxes combine the structural strength of double-twist hexagonal mesh with the superior corrosion resistance of PVC coating over a galvanized core. Designed for aggressive environments where standard galvanizing alone is insufficient — marine, coastal, industrial, and chemical applications.
Construction & Materials
The PVC-coated gabion uses a three-layer protection system:
- Inner Core: Q195 low-carbon steel wire, 2.5mm diameter — provides structural strength
- Middle Layer: Hot-dipped galvanized coating (>=200g/m2) — primary corrosion protection
- Outer Layer: PVC coating (0.5mm thickness) — secondary protection against UV, salt, and chemicals
The PVC coating is extruded directly onto the galvanized wire before weaving, ensuring complete coverage including at the twist points. Available in green (RAL 6005) and gray (RAL 7030) to blend with natural or built environments.
Key Advantages
- Superior Corrosion Resistance: PVC coating provides an impermeable barrier against salt water, industrial chemicals, and acidic soils. Service life 30+ years in marine environments.
- UV Stability: PVC compound includes UV inhibitors preventing degradation from sunlight exposure. Color remains stable for 20+ years.
